Cristie (Patterson) Mitchell is a 1998 graduate of St. Andrews Presbyterian College where she received her B.A. in Physical Education and Sport. She was a member of the Women’s Basketball team from 1993-1998. During her tenure at St. Andrews, Cristie scored 1,232 career points. She reached 1000 career points in 3 years and 4 games. She also accumulated over 750 career rebounds and over 50 blocks.
A 4-year starter and senior-year team captain, Cristie averaged 15 points and 10 rebounds per game for her career. During her freshman season, she averaged 10.5 PPG and 10.5 RPG, and she was voted 2nd team All CIAC. In her sophomore season, she averaged 21.2 PPG and 11.0 RPG and was voted 1st team All CVAC. Cristie finished 2nd in Conference Player of the Year voting in her sophomore season. She also finished the 1994-95 season ranked in the Top 10 nationally for points and rebounds. Cristie followed up her outstanding sophomore campaign with another 2nd team All CVAC selection after averaging 15.2 PPG and 9.5 RPG as a junior. A torn ACL ended her career early in her senior year, where averaged 13.8 PPG and 8.3 RPG.
While at St. Andrews, Cristie volunteered at many Laurinburg area schools to read and tutor elementary students. She also completed her student teaching at Scotland High School where she emphasized the importance of education to all of the students in the classroom.
After completing her degree in 1998, she coached high school basketball in Charlotte, NC for 24 years at Olympic High School, E.E. Waddell High School, and South Mecklenburg High School. She has 281 career wins and has become one of the most respected women’s coaches in high school basketball.
She is a national board-certified teacher and has earned her master’s degree in administration and leadership. She co-founded a non-profit organization, MW United Inc., whose mission is to develop distinguished youth by unlocking their full potential while stimulating their love of learning through a balance of academics and athletics. Through her organization, she founded the Charlotte Hoops Challenge and Select 60 to further the exposure of high school basketball in NC.
As of 2023, Cristie lives in Rock Hill, SC and works for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Cristie is married to Nicholas (Nick) Mitchell, a 1998 graduate of St. Andrews Presbyterian College and 2005 St. Andrews Athletic Hall of Fame inductee. They are the first married couple to both be inducted into the St. Andrews Athletic Hall of Fame. They have 2 sons, Aiden, a Sophomore at College of Charleston and Mason, a Junior at Northwestern High School.
